Tension Rods

MACALLOY Bracing Systems provide a full range of high quality rod and cable systems for a wide variety of architectural, structural and civil applications. Developed in the UK during the early 1980’s MACALLOY’s range of products are now recognised worldwide as a leading brand within their field.

MACALLOY Tension Rods are available in thread diameters ranging from 10mm to 100mm, and are available as unfinished carbon steel (normally for later painting), hot dip galvanized, or stainless steel. The range is also complimented by a full selection of rod coupling systems, center anchor discs, and compression rods. Pre-tension jacking systems are also available. They are used for a wide range of architectural and structural applications.

MACALLOY Cable Systems are an alternative to tension rods. They are available in stainless steel cable diameters from 4mm to 26mm, and in three different strand configurations to suit a range of engineering requirements.

MACALLOY 1030 AND S1030 Post Tensioning System comprises a range of high tensile carbon steel and stainless steel threaded bars available in diameters from 25mm to 75mm. Originally developed for prestressed concrete structures the system is also used for a variety of other structural applications.

MACALLOY Tension Rods and Cable Systems provide:
  • Attractive appearance
  • Adjustable for length
  • High performance
  • Wide selection of load capacities and finish
  • Wide selection of accessories
  • Sealed threads for corrosion protection

Special bar sizes and special solutions are available to suit specific requirements. Please contact our technical team.

Tension Rods are available in mill finish carbon steel, hot-dip galvanized, and stainless steel.
Cable Systems are available in stainless steel.
The Post Tensioning System is available in carbon steel and stainless steel.

Coupling Systems

Turnbuckles are a simple method to allow rod lengths to be extended while providing additional length adjustment.
The Cross-Coupler allows simple diagonal bracing by permitting rods to intersect in the same plane.
The Turnbuckle with Fin Plate allows long horizontal rods to be supported against sag by using additional vertical bracing.
The Disc Connection provides an attractive architectural feature for the central connection of multiple tension rods used in cross bracing

The TechnoTensioner allows the accurate preload of MACALLOY tendons where a turnbuckle is used. It works by gripping the tension bar on either side of the turnbuckle and pulling the bars together into tension and so loosening the turnbuckle. The turnbuckle can then be tightened with a strap, chain or stilson wrench.

Compression Rods

Tension rods and cables systems are excellent for supporting tension loads, but not compression loads. Compression Rods accommodate the structural situations where compression loads need to be supported. They consist of large diameter steel tubes with MACALLOY fork ends and are available in architectural and standard configurations.
